These Bees Are Actually Pulling A Rope For Their Food

A study conducted by scientists at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) revealed how intelligent bees are. The study’s researchers concluded that bees can learn to solve problems by watching each other. This very interesting development provides insights into the intelligence of insects.

The researchers used the technique of pulling strings to obtain food to test how smart bees are. This technique was previously employed in testing the intelligence of apes and birds. The study’s findings reveal the bees’ high level of intelligence despite their tiny brains and miniature nervous systems.

According to Clint Perry, one of the study’s authors, the ability to learn and pass on knowledge is not exclusive to humans and can also be exhibited by animals, including insects. Their study presents evidence that simple animals such as bees possess the basic tools needed for the cultural spread of unusual skills.

The study first appeared in the journal “PLOS Biology” in early October 2016. It trained 23 bees to pull strings with their legs and feet. The strings lead to a disc containing food at their center.

Another phase of the experiment involved bees who were allowed to observe the trained bees pulling the strings. Two-thirds of them learned the skill. The trained bees also successfully passed on the skill when they were put in colonies. The acquired skill continued to spread among the colony’s young workers even after the death of the original learners. This ensures the skills’ longevity in the population.

The study was supervised by QMUL professor Lars Chitka. According to him, their work explored the brain processes behind the cognitive skills of bees. Chitka’s group is planning to conduct further research on ways social learning spreads through a population.

Chitka and colleagues centered on three areas when they conducted the study. First, they wanted to determine the possible neural solutions to underpin such refined skills in bees. Second, they wanted to investigate how the bees perform those skills with such small brains. Third, the group aimed to find the ways the bees’ miniature nervous systems exhibit such a diversity of behaviors and cognitive tasks.

Scientists not involved in the study were impressed by its findings. For Christian Rutz, an evolutionary ecologist who studies bird cognition at the University of St. Andrews, the study is significant for challenging the notion that equates big brains to the dissemination of new skills. For Ivo Jacobs, a cognitive zoologist at Lund University, the study’s data show the unexpected behavioral flexibility of bees.

Lost Ways Of Survival Video

An amazing discovery in an abandoned house in Austin, Texas: A lost book of amazing survival knowledge, believed to have been long vanished to history, has been found in a dusty drawer in the house which belonged to a guy named Claude Davis.

Remember... back in those days, there was no electricity... no refrigerators... no law enforcement... and certainly no grocery store or supermarkets... Some of these exceptional skills are hundreds of years of old and they were learned the hard way by the early pioneers.

We've lost to history so much survival knowledge that we've become clueless compared to what our great grandfathers did or built on a daily basis to sustain their families.

Neighbors said that for the last couple of years Claude has tried to unearth and learn the forgotten ways of our great-grandparents and claimed to have found a secret of gargantuan proportions.
