News, popular science and school studies have given most people a basic understanding regarding nuclear weapons. However, those classes might not be enough for anyone of us to really realize the true scale of nuclear weapons. This topic is often deemed as taboo, because of the darkness surrounding it.

If you have heard of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombing, and think those incidents were already too big of a destruction, this viral video, with almost 4 million hits, will open your eyes to the true scale of nuclear weapons.


The US and the former Soviet Union have been developing their nuclear weapons to serve as their last straw of defense in case of war. Apart from the bombs used in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, other weapons were also developed. They are the B83 bomb, Castle Bravo, and the Tsar Bomba.

The B83 bomb is the biggest nuclear weapon in the US arsenal–which when tested actually produced a mushroom cloud that was even higher than the altitude of a commercial plane, and so many times higher than Mount Everest. This bomb is said to produce a destruction level that is 80 times bigger than what Hiroshima experienced.

If you are asking if the B83 bomb is the largest, the answer is a terrifying “No”. The former Soviet Union once did a test using their nuclear weapon called the Tsar Bomba. It was 3,333 times stronger than the Hiroshima attack. It was so strong, it sent shockwaves around the earth three times.
